Obit for Ms. Josie Mae Durden

Ms. Josie Mae Durden, of Wadley, died peacefully surrounded by family members, after a long illness on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017, at her residence.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was born on Sunday, Sept. 7, 1947, to Rev. Leo Durden, Jr., and Minnie M. Grant Durden in Avera. Josie attended Jefferson County Public Schools.

Josie was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Charlie Durden, Eugene Durden, Leroy Durden, and Jerome Jordan.

She is survived by her devoted children, daughters; Angela Y. Durden and Sondra D. Durden, of Wadley, two grandchildren; Shauntasia M. Durden, and Dekadrion L. Hynson, of Wadley.

Josie also leaves to cherish her memory, one sister; Lille D. Boston (Willie), of Hephzibah, one brother; Charles Dixon, of Atlanta, one brother-in-law; Willie B. Boston, of Hephzibah and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

Josie worked at Keller Manufacturing in Swainsboro as an assembly line worker for over 22 years. She joined Solomon Temple Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and was a faithful member and singed in the choir until her declining health.

Her favorite songs were ‘Amazing Grace” and “Never Would Have Made It.” Her favorite scripture was Psalm 34. “I Will Bless the Lord at All Times…”

Josie was a loving mother and loved cooking for her family and sharing her meals with friends. She will be missed by those who enjoyed a good meal.

Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 21, at noon at the Solomon Temple Missionary Baptist Church, 1331 Solomon Temple Church Road, Wadley, with Reverend Eric M. Tate, Pastor, as Eulogist.
