Buddy Womack entered into rest on Feb. 9, 2018. He was born on Dec. 27, 1940 in Frostproof, Fla.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Faye Ince Womack, son, Ethan Ross Womack, daughter, Charlene Carter Usry (Chuck), mother, Virginia Womack Quarles, sisters, Glenda Womack, Patsy Jo White, Becky Lanier, and Holly Everett, and grandsons, Joshua Carter Usry and Charles Trevor Usry.
Buddy was retired from the United States Army after 20 years of service. Following his military service he was employed by private contractors at Fort Gordon, Georgia and retired in 2006.
Buddy was a man with many interests including a love of horses, dogs, and working in his shop where he crafted many requests, from wood furniture to Christmas décor to his grandsons’ baby cradle. He was a talented (self-taught) steel guitar player and enjoyed playing with various musicians through the years. He was also beloved by many children in shopping malls along the East Coast in his role as Santa Claus over a span of 20 years. Though he was a man of few words, you listened when he spoke. He was non-judgmental, sometimes offering a different perspective. He was highly respected and loved by his family. His wife often remarked he was the best husband anyone could have.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roland Ross Womack, former wife, Carol Fowler Womack, daughter, Melanie Dawn Womack, son, Billy Gene Womack, two brothers, Gerald “Jerry” Isaac Womack, and Billy Womack.
The family will receive friends Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018 at 11 am at Woodland Baptist Church, Hwy 1, Matthews. A graveside service, led by a dear family friend, Mr. Lee Bultman, will follow at 11:30 am.
Central Savannah River Crematory.
