Donald Christopher “Chris” Hadden, 33, loving son of David and Leisa Todd Hadden, and  victim of a violent crime in Clinton County, Missouri in July 2015,  has been found and returned home.  Funeral services will be held at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church on Saturday morning, March 18, 2017 at 11 a.m. with Rev Michael Thigpen officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the church cemetery.
Born in Metter, Chris grew up in Avera and was a 1999 graduate of Jefferson County High School.  A very active child, he played Dixie Youth baseball, was involved in 4H, and other school activities. He was baptized and a member at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where he was active in RA’s, Sunday School, Christmas programs and other church functions.  He loved living in a small, rural town—hunting, fishing, working on the farm, riding on country dirt roads and just enjoying the outdoors. Having a “green thumb”—he could “grow” anything—he enjoyed horticulture and aquaculture.  He completed three years of martial arts training under the tutelage of Bill Snider, specializing in Soo Bak Do and achieving a Red Belt ranking.  Chris loved his community and served on Avera’s volunteer fire department.  As a true patriot, his favorite holiday was July 4th.  After 9/11, it was his patriotic duty to join the Air Force, desiring to make a difference in the world by defending his country.  After completing basic training, he was stationed at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage AK. Living in Alaska, he could do the things he enjoyed most in life—hunting, fishing, outdoor activities and spending time with his children. Next he was stationed at Ellsworth AFB in Rapid City SD after which he did a tour in Afghanistan.  Chris was trained and received certification as an aircraft structural maintenance journeyman, proudly receiving secret security clearance and several awards including the Oak Leaf Cluster Merit. He was a mechanical genius, and could repair anything. Chris designed and invented a special tool to make structural repairs more efficient, for which he received a Hard Charger award for saving the military time and thousands of dollars.  Being honorably discharged in 2008, he continued following jobs in his area of expertise which is what took him to Missouri. A loyal friend, Chris was known for his big heart and always made time to help others in any way he could. He had an absolute love for his family—especially his children, parents and sister—and was most content and happy in their presence.  Death has left a void that no one can fill, but his love has left us memories that no one can steal.
Chris was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Jake Quincy Moxley; paternal grandfathers, Donald Price Hadden and James Lee Hobbs; and a favorite uncle, Calvin Todd.  Other survivors include his three children, Ashton Faythe Hadden, Hunter Nicolas Hadden and Reese Dillard Hadden; sister, Emily Marie Hadden; paternal grandmother, Dorothy Hadden; and maternal grandparents, Peggy S. Moxley and Dekle Dean Todd Sr.; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.  Pallbearers will be Chandler Hadden, Spencer Hadden, Robert Hoffman, Michael Huff, Brad Irby, Gary Kitchens, Doug Landrum and Brandon Walden.  Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Avera Volunteer Fire Department.

Allene Thigpen Rabun, 73, loving wife of 54 years to William W. Rabun, entered into her eternal rest late Wednesday evening, March 15, 2017 at Jefferson Hospital. Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church of Louisville at 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon, March 19, with Rev. Larry Montgomery and Rev. Ray Sullivan officiating. Interment will follow in the Louisville City Cemetery.
Born to the late Norma Brinson Thigpen and the late Jesse Thigpen, Allene grew up in the Moxley Community, was a 1961 graduate of Wadley High School and graduated from business school before marrying the love of her life and moving to “the farm” in 1963.  Allene worked at First National Bank before being a stay-at-home mom, making their home a comfortable, safe-haven for her family. She loved her Lord and Savior, serving Him at First Baptist Church of Louisville as the Administrative Assistant for the last fifteen years, as well as chair person for the hostess and benevolent committee, and attending the Philthea Sunday School Class. It has been said that she “lived for” her flowers.  At the farm, she loved working in her flower garden, where at one point she had 150 rose bushes, and making arrangements for weddings and other events. She also had an expansive vegetable garden, sharing with neighbors and friends the bounty it afforded.  Allene was also a great cook, and especially loved making caramel cakes for her beloved grandsons.  A loving, caring person, Allene had a servant’s heart and demonstrated selfless love to her family and friends, which was everyone since she considered strangers friends she had not yet met.  After the death of her precious son, Allene began a campaign of writing condolence letters to everyone who suffered the loss of  a child, offering her comfort and love from one who could truly sympathize with in their loss.  Her greatest joy and pleasure was her family, especially her grandsons.  Allene loved Jesus, her family and her community and served each whole-heartedly.  Our loss is Heaven’s gain.  She is now with Jesus and has joined her son in Glory.
Allene was also preceded in death by her son, Maron Rabun; and brother, Russell Ziegler. Cyrus “White” Kitchens III, 93, loving husband of 69 years to  Patty Jane Veal Kitchens,  peacefully entered into his eternal rest Sunday morning, March 26, 2017, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday afternoon, March 29, 2017 at Wrens Baptist Church with Dr. James M. Ford and Reverend Carson Fellows officiating.  Interment will follow in the Wrens Memorial Cemetery.
The only son of five children of the late Nettie Rae Jenkins Kitchens and the late Cyrus White Kitchens Jr., White was born in the same room of the house from which he departed this earth for his eternal home. After graduating from Wrens High School, he attended the University of Georgia for a year before serving in the Merchant Marines during World War II.  Upon his return home from service, he owned and operated a grocery business in Wadley and in Wrens, and then a furniture business in Wrens, retiring at its closing. His pastimes were filled with riding horses and gardening. A past member of the Wadley Lions Club and Wrens Kiwanis, and a current member of American Legion Post # 229, White was active in community events. Described as “a character”, he had an engaging personality and great sense of humor which was manifested in his smile and the twinkle in his eye as he lovingly “picked” at his loved ones and friends.  White accepted God’s free gift of salvation through His son, Jesus, at the young age of 8, serving his Lord and Savior faithfully at Wrens Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School and served as a deacon.  He never sought recognition for himself and reflected the love of Christ in his love for his family, church, community and friends.
White was also preceded in death by his sister, Ann Lewis.  Other survivors include his sons, J.W. Kitchens (Derry) and Thomas Veal Kitchens; three sisters, Fay McNair, Carolyn Cox and Marian Evans (Melvin); two grandsons, Ezra Kitchens and Noah Kitchens; several nieces and nephews; and his church family.  Pallbearers will be Ezra Kitchens, Noah Kitchens, Billy Lewis, Charles Lewis Jr., Greg Lewis, Emory Clements, Randy Smith and Ray Smith.  Serving as honorary pallbearers is the Willis Clark Sunday School class and Wrens Baptist Church Deacons.
The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to Wrens Memorial Cemetery, c/o Hugh Fleming, 104 Norton Drive, Wrens GA 30833 or to Wrens Baptist Church, P.O. Box 217, Wrens GA  30833.
