Mrs. Dorothy May Chalker Thigpen 70, loving wife of 52 years to Thomas Thigpen, entered into her eternal rest early Tuesday morning, Jan. 17, 2017 at Pruitt Health Old Capitol in Louisville. Funeral services will be held at Bethel United Methodist Church at 2:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon, Jan. 19, 2017, with Jason Burton officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
One of six children born to the late Bettie Lamb Chalker and the late Lamar Chalker, Dorothy was raised and went to school in Glascock County and has lived in Jefferson after marrying the love of her life in 1965. She retired with 37 years of service from Stapleton Garment when it closed in 1996. She loved her Lord and Savior and attended Bethel United Methodist Church until her health declined in 2009. Dorothy loved being outside-fishing and traveling to the mountains. She was a good cook and made a great home for her family. A good-hearted person, Dorothy was a dedicated friend and would help others in need. She had a joy for life that was infectious. Her death leaves a void that no one can fill, but her love leaves memories that no one can steal.
Dorothy was also preceded in death by her sister, Mary Lou Chalker. Other survivors include four siblings, Virginia Chalker, Betty Shelton, Jimmie Walden and Walter Chalker; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Stevie Lampp, Tony Lampp, Jeff McGahee, Ricky Prickett, Cecil Shelton Jr. and David Usry.
The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday evening, Jan. 18, 2017.
