Mrs. Eva Lou Gibbons died Thursday Oct. 20, 2016.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 29, at 1 p.m. at the Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church and Cemetery, Louisville
Wake service will be Friday evening from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at James and Virginia Davis Chapel.
Mrs. Gibbons was born in Louisville, September 15, 1954 to the parentage of the late Abe and Lucille Grant Gibbons. At an early age she joined the Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church. She was a 1973 graduate of Louisville, High School and later attended Paine College where she earned a degree in Education.
Prior to her illness she was employed at Delilah Manufacturing Corporation. She joins parents, siblings, Gloria Gibbons, Clarence Gibbons, Joseph Grant and her son, Patrick Gibbons in death.
Survivors are her sisters, Bernice (Harvey) McCall, Julia Gibbons of Augusta, Fannie Calhoun, Bronx, N.Y. and Daisy Thompson, Newark, N.J. one brother, George (Mary) Gibbons, Louisville, one nephew that she reared as her own, Kinte’ Grant, Atlanta, sister-in-law, Ruby Grant, Augusta, uncles, nieces and nephews including a devoted LaShandra McCall-McKoy, Savannah, a devoted friend, Kerry Harden, Louisville,

Mr. Kenneth Richard “Ricky” Gordon, 64 of Mitchell died Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016 in the AU Medical Center, Augusta.
Graveside services were held Friday, Oct. 21, in the Mt. Zion Congregational Methodist Church Cemetery, Mitchell, with Rev. Wayne King officiating.
A native of Sandersville, Ricky was a son of Kenneth Eugene Gordon and Norma Kent Gordon. He was a heavy equipment operator and had worked for Howard Sheppard.
Mr. Gordon is preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Joyce Reese Gordon and is survived by daughter, Rebecca Gordon of Kathleen, brothers, Randy (Melanie) Gordon of Byron, and Ronnie Gordon of Byron, grandson, Cody Gunby of Washington, and niece, Melissa Gordon of Louisville.

Thad, “Po Boy-Cowboy” Lewis Jr. passed away on Oct. 22, 2016 at his home after battling cancer.
At his side were his daughter; Tammy Lewis Rizer, his special friend; Rebecca Tarvin, her daughter Heather Tarvin as well as Todd Gadd. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Mrs. Joyce Kelley Meeker, 57 of Mitchell, died Sunday evening, Oct. 23, 2016 in the Gibson Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 26 in Mt. Zion Congregational United Methodist Church, Mitchell with Rev. Don Black officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Chad Arrington, Jason Arrington, Scott Kelley, Jeremy Kelley, Roddie Kelley and Anthony Kelley.
Mrs. Meeker a native of Jefferson County, was the daughter of James R. Kelley and Hazel Reese Kelley of Mitchell. She had been a secretary at Fort Gordon before retiring.
Mrs. Meeker is survived by her parents; son, Adam Meeker of Indiana; sisters, Terry Arrington of Mitchell and Sherry McKinnon of Dunn, North Carolina; brother, Chris Kelley of Mitchell; two grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Mrs. Orelia McCorkle Oliphant, 82, wife of 66 years to Joe Reeves “Coot” Oliphant, entered into her eternal rest Thursday, Oct.20, 2016.
Funeral services were held in the James Funeral Home Chapel Saturday, Oct. 22, with Rev. Joe Walden and Rev. Janet Sack officiating. Interment will follow in Wrens Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Oliphant, one of seven children born to the late Sybil Walker McCorkle and the late Rufus McCorkle, grew up in Jefferson County, graduated from Wrens High School after which she married the love of her life and has lived in the home they built for the last 66 years. She was a hard worker, both inside and outside the home—working at Barrow & Prescott, the tag office in Louisville, and as a postal clerk in Hephzibah, Keysville, Matthews and Wrens. She also helped Coot farm and “enjoyed” working with pecans for 64 years. When not working, she volunteered her time at various organizations—working with MYF at Mt. Moriah, the 4-H club, etc. In her spare time, she enjoyed working in her flowers, traveling, walking on the beach at Tybee Island and spending time with her family. Orelia loved her Lord and Savior, serving Him at Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church. Having a servant’s heart, she was always ready to help those in need in any way she could. Her greatest love was her family to whom she gave her best. Orelia’s great personality, loving spirit and big, infectious smile will be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Mrs. Oliphant is also preceded in death by her sister, Mildred Norton. Other survivors include her daughter, Patti Jo (Jerry) McLain: grandson, Brandon McLain; five siblings, Willa Prescott, Wells (Beth) McCorkle, Janie Ruth (Nickie) Hale, Mary Ann (Ricky) Peeples and Sandy (Dale) McCorkle; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Pallbearers were Jeremy Gay, Jim Gay, Jim Milton, Sam Pennington, Alan Rabun and Milton Scott.

Mr. Carthan William “CW” Robinson Jr., 74, passed away peacefully Oct. 13, 2016.
Services were held on Saturday, Oct. 22, at at New Zion Baptist Church, Wrens, with Rev. Bennie Holmes, Pastor, Eulogist & Rev. Dr. Willie L. Jones, Sr., Presider. Interment: church cemetery.
“CW” as he was fondly called by family and friends, was born to both the late Olar and Carthan Robinson, Sr. in Wrens, on Sept. 22, 1942. He was one of six children that was raised in a home filled with love. CW is preceded in death by four siblings; his three sisters, Annie Lee Brown, Wilhemenia Howard, Katrine Anderson and his only brother, Colis Ray Robinson.
CW was educated in the Wrens, and Louisville, public school systems. He loved to fish. CW was employed by Union Camp and Battle Lumber Company for many years. At an early age, CW joined the New Zion Baptist Church of Wrens, where he worked tirelessly until his health failed him. He held the position of trustee and really loved working for the Lord. Although his health was declining, CW recently attended church service and upheld his job as a trusted trustee.
On Dec. 27, 2008, CW married Mary E. Hobbs formerly of Brooklyn, NY.
Mr. Robinson leaves to cherish his memory wife, Mary E. Robinson of Wrens, three daughters, Jametrice “Shun” Robinson of Grovetown, Debbie Farmer of Louisville, and Reginia Robinson of Columbus, Ohio; two sons, Christian and Herbert Robinson, both of Columbus, Ohio; four step-daughters, Penny, Tammie, both of Augusta, Adriane of Brooklyn, NY and Latonia of Lithonia, one step-son, Clarence “Eric” of Sylvania, one sister, Mary Ella (Thomas) Brown of Warner Robins, devoted nephews, Tommy Howard of Wrens, and Rev. Tony (Katherine) Brown of Thomson, niece, Patricia (Willie) Jackson of Wrens, a god-mother, Lillie B. Barnes of Wrens, a god-sister, Gwendolyn (Tony) Morgan of Brooklyn, NY; 10 grandchildren, Eric McCall Jr., Karima Dukes, Jazmine Robinson all of Grovetown, Chad Farmer, Tiquila Wynn, Nakeiria Wynn, Darryl Burns, Damian Farmer all of Louisville, Joyettee Robinson and Bridgette Robinson both of Columbus, Ohio, an additional seven grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; brother-in-laws, Herman Robinson, Jr. of Atlanta, Fred Robinson, Jr. of Wrens, sisters-in-law, Faye Robinson and Betty Robinson both of Brooklyn, NY and a host of other family members and friends too numerous to mention. Pallbearers were Mr. Tommie Harris, Mr. Lester Pitts, Mr. Fred Robinson, Jr., Mr. Charlie McCoy, Mr. Stanley Thomas, Mr. Phil Habersham ,Mr. Grady Mathis and Mr. Derrick Wright.
