Mrs. Eula Walden Carswell died September 2, 2016.Funeral services for Mrs. Eula Walden Carswell, 83, were held Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016 at 12 p.m. at Piney Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Cedric J. Carswell officiating and Pastor Demones Kelly presiding. Interment was held at Green Cemetery, and repast was held in the fellowship hall of Piney Grove Baptist Church. 
Mrs. Eula Walden Carswell was born Aug. 15, 1933 in Jefferson County to the late Carrie Lou Boatwright Bell and Andy Walden.
 Mrs .Carswell was educated in the Jefferson County School System. After meeting and marrying the love of her life, the late Gordon Carswell Jr., she was a wife and mother. She professed Christ early in life and joined Ada Grove Holiness Church. Later in life,  Mrs. Carswell  united with the Church of the Living Word, working faithfully and letting God’s love shine through her to bring others to Him.  Mrs.  Carswell’s occupation was cooking, and that she loved to do, laboring at Coleman Lake Restaurant and Jefferson County Schools for many years. She was preceded in death by her stepfather, husband, and a daughter, Carrie Mae Sims.
Survivors include a daughter, Joann Carswell of Midville; four sons, Willie Walden (Betty) Carswell and Joseph( Ophelia) Carswell, both of Wadley, and Steve Carswell and Robert Earl (Cheryl) Carswell, both of Midville; three sisters, Alberta Singletary of Pompano Beach, FL., Mae Blanche Brown of Deerfield, FL., and Adele Marshall of Miami, FL.; a brother, Andy (Christine) Walden Jr. of Miami, FL.; a special cousin; four sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, church family, and friends.
Pallbearers were her grandsons.

Mrs. Annie Ruth Thompson Holmes, of Bartow,  departed this life Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016 at her residence.
 Mrs. Holmes was a native of Jefferson County. She was born in Bartow.   She was united matrimony for over sixty years to Alex Holmes, on May 30, 1951. At an early age he joined and worshipped with the Christian Family at the Gordon Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on the Usher’s Board, and Missionary Society, and was a devoted homemaker.
 She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; Alex Holmes, her siblings; Willie James Thompson, Sammy Gibbons, Joseph Gibbons, Willie Johnson, and Mazie Stephens.
 Survivors include her  children; Essie (Andrew “Sonny”) Daniels, Jacksonville, Florida, Annie (John Goodson) Bell, Carrie (Oliver) Gibbons, Rev. Walter (Delores) Holmes, Sr., Daisy Holmes, Bartow,  Mattie Lowery, Charles (Earnestine) Holmes, Sr., Robert (Eilean) Holmes, Elouise (Rev. Charles) Holloway, Louisville, Theodis (Elizabeth) Holmes, Wadley,  Patricia (Onnie Vaxter) Johnson, Lithonia,  and Adam (Tanisha) Holmes, Dublin, 27 grandchildren,  forty-two great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, one son she reared as her own; Michael (Landie) Johnson, Louisville, sisters; Bessie Robinson, and Annie Laura Scott, Wadley,  god-daughter; Vivian Ann Johnson, Baltimore, MD, sisters-in-laws; Geraldine Holmes, and Hattie Mae Holmes, Bartow,  and a host of  nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
 Funeral Services were held Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Gordon Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 1080 Belmont Road, Louisville.  Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Mr. Charles “Bubba” Pollett, III, 68 of Murphy Street, Wadley, died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016 in the Jefferson Hospital.  
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 10, in the Wadley United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Sauls and Rev. Chris Shoemaker officiating.  Burial will follow in the Wadley City Cemetery.  Pallbearers were: Larry Purvis, Chuck McMillan, Bob Lunceford, Jeff Reich, Stan Johnson and Rocky Stewart.  Honorary Pallbearers were: Gary Hutchins, Joe Miller and employees of Cooper Machine Shop.
Mr. Pollett was a native and lifelong resident of Wadley, he was a son of the late Charles Gordon Pollett, Jr. and Jane Raines Pollett Wimberly. He graduated from Wadley High School in 1966, served in the National Guard for 10 years, retired from Cooper Machine Shop August 31, 2016 after 44 years of service and was a lifelong member of the Wadley United Methodist Church.  
Mr. Pollett is preceded in death by his parents and twin grandsons, Matthew Kenneth Lunceford and David Charles Lunceford and is survived by his  wife of 46 years, Joanna Pollett of Wadley; daughters, Anna Marie and Jeff Reich of Swainsboro and Elizabeth and Bob Lunceford of Washington; sister, Cheryl and Sam Arrington of Louisville; brother, Chuck and Roxanne Wimberly of Swainsboro; grandchildren, Emily Reich and John Reich, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
  In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Wadley United Methodist Church, 36 W. Calhoun Street, Wadley, Ga. 30477 or to Moxley Baptist Church, c/o Bill Miller, 1064 WB Miller Road, Wadley, Ga. 30477.

Mr. James Lee Sanders, Sr., 79,  husband of the late Margaret H. Sanders, entered into his eternal rest Saturday morning, September 10, 2016 at his daughter’s residence in Glascock County. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday morning, September 15, 2016 in the James Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John A. Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow in the Jefferson County Memorial Gardens.
One of ten children born to the late Mabel Smith Sanders and the late Leo Sanders, James was born in Girard and grew up outside of Waynesboro in Burke County. He quit school at an early age to go to work and help out his family. As a young man, he lived in Dallas TX for seventeen years, working in the upholstery business before moving back to Millen where he worked for the Knox Trailer plant. To be near his family, he moved to Stapleton in 1985 at which time he was a long-haul trucker before hauling locally for Wayne Smith. James loved to be outdoors: he especially loved fishing and hunting. He had a feisty attitude but was always quick to help others. He loved his Lord and Savior and served Him at Reedy Creek Baptist Church. A good provider for his family, James was a constant in their lives. His deep, abiding, unconditional love for his family will live on in their hearts.
 Mr. Sanders was also preceded in death by his son, Russell James Sanders; and six siblings, George Tabbet, Helen Davis, Leo Sanders Jr., Marilyn Poole, Donnie Sanders and Ricky Sanders. Other survivors include his children, Kathy A. (Hugh) Lambert ) and James Sanders, Jr.; three siblings, Carolyn Shockley, Evelyna Joles and Dee Hamilton; six grandchildren, April (Scott) Parker , Jason Lambert, Maggie (Ron) Harris , Katie Sanders, Rusty Sanders and Amy (Chris) Walden ; thirteen great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Pallbearers will be Mark Covington, Greg Davis, Joe Davis, Craig Manseau, Bill Perry and Wesley Williams. Serving as an honorary pallbearer will be his great grandson, Micheal Williams.
The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 6 -8 p.m. Wednesday evening, September 14, 2016.

Mr. Roosevelt Smith of  Decatur, entered into rest Sept.2, at Hillindale Medical in Lithonia. Funeral service were  held Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016 at Springfield AME Church in Stapleton,  with Rev. David Batts officiating and Rev. Forest Dickey presiding. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Smith was born in Jefferson County on September 26, 1942 to the late Cephas Smith Sr. and Ada Lee Bethea Smith. At a young age he gave his life to Christ, and became a member of  Stone Springfield A.M.E. “Velt” as he  was lovingly called was a 1961 graduate of Jefferson County High                                                                                                           Mr. Smith  was a dedicated employee of Sears Roebuck for thirty-eight years.  He also was employed by The Federal Reserve Bank and instrumental  as a construction worker.  He was known to work miracles with his hands, very talented mechanic and barber.  He sought to help and encourage  a person in their time of need. He was always busy, and ever alert to find something to do
Survivors include  his  wife of fifty-five years, Christine Smith; two  daughters, Letheia (Juan) Smith of Decatur,  and Bridgette  (John Atkins)Smith  Atlanta,  brother and sister, Catherine Boyd of Baltimore, MD and Cephas Smith Jr. of Atlanta,  grandchildren, Arthur Maurice Lemon, Diamond Cierra Smith, and Juan A. Smith II; five grandchildren; uncle, Sam Willie Bethea of Atlanta,  and aunt, Rubie Lee Hatche of Wrens,  god-daughters, Ada Lee Farmer Brown of Wrens,  Vannessa Renee Bethea Garrett of Decatur,  and Treniqka Walters of Knoxville, TN; brother-in –laws, James (Betty) Roberts of Avera , Roychester (Annie) Roberts of Gainesville, FL, KC Roberts of Wrens,  and Rev. Carl Simmons, Sr. of Stapleton,  sister-in-laws, Vickie Green of Avera,  and Catherine Roberts of Wrens,  and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by a sister, Shirley Simmons of Stapleton.                                    
Honorary pallbearers will be Jefferson County High Class of 1961. Active pallbearers will be George Brown, Eric Shannon, Maurice Lemon, David Brown, Donald Brown, Christopher Brown, Kilo Cunningham, Roderick Smith and Rev. Wright White.

Mrs. Sybil Hartley Stewart Tull, of Durham, died Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016.  
She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and an innovative English teacher. She was also instrumental in Women’s Preventive Health Services. 
She is survived by her four children, Roxane Gwyn, Ben Stewart, Mary Pruchansky, and Becky Finger as well as eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  
Services were held at  Oak Grove Memorial Park,  Monday, Sept. 12.

Miss Bettie Lou Williams, 67 entered into her eternal rest Thursday afternoon, Sept. 8, 2016 at C & R Personal Care Home in Lincolnton. Funeral services were held  Sunday afternoon, Sept. 11, in the James Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Clarence Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in the Rehoboth Baptist Church Cemetery located on Hwy 57 outside of Kite. 
Miss Williams was one of ten children born to the late Adria Stapleton Williams and the late Linton K. Williams. A native of Wrightsville, she graduated from Wadley High School and earned a degree at Swainsboro Technical School. After her father passed, she and her mother moved to Gibson to be near her sister. After her mother died, she lived with her sister until moving to Lincolnton where she had lived for the past eighteen years. Bettie was very artistic—a talented painter, song writer and singer. She could often be found drinking her “Southern” iced tea and coffee, and watching her favorite TV shows. Baptist by faith, Bettie loved her Lord and Savior. She was constantly in the Word, growing closer to Jesus and deepening her relationship with Him. Even though she endured much tribulation and troubles, she maintained a sweet, humble spirit and had a continued thankfulness for her blessings. Bettie is now content and at peace in her Heavenly home.
Miss Willliams is also preceded in death by her twin sister, Mary Lou Williams. Survivors include her three brothers, Alton Williams of Albany, Gene Williams (Jessie) of Wadley, Jack Williams (Gwen) of Wrens; five sisters, Edna L. Price (Robert) of Milledgeville, LaVerne Bridges (Larry) of Davisboro, Karolyn Usry (Terry) of Gibson, Alicia Usry David) of Gibson, and Debbie Adams (Sam) of North Augusta SC; a special cousin, R. E. Fortner of Wadley; and a multitude of nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers were Jeff Herndon, J.J. Herndon, Steve Reagan, Anthony Usry, Eric Williams, and Gene Williams.
