Obituaries from September 8, 2016

Mrs. Margaret Wells Johnson funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016 at Gordon Grove Baptist Church in Louisville with Rev. Walter Holmes, Sr. officiating and Rev. Charles Holloway presiding. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Johnson was born in Jefferson County, Louisville,  June 10, 1927. She was the daughter of the late Twiggs Wells, Sr. and Cora Jackson Wells. When she was very young, she became a member of Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church and faithfully attended Gordon Grove Baptist Church until her health failed. In the year of 1947 she graduated from Jefferson County Training School. Later attended Ft. Valley State College and received a degree in education. She taught school at Gordon Grove School and Grange Community School for several years. She was a employee at The General Shirt Factory in Louisville until its closing in 1982. She was very instrumental in rearing her grandchildren and foster children.
Mrs. Johnson was united into marriage to the late Mr. Jordan Johnson, Jr.
Survivors are her children, Lona F. ( Johnny) Lane-Samuels, Howard D.  (Cynthia) Johnson, Gloria D.(Michael) Casey, Clyde A. (Sundrette) Johnson,  and Chester L.  (Cynthia) Johnson grandchildren,Taris (Regina) Lane,  Swanzetta (Chamberlain) Robertson, Mario (Shina)Johnson, D’Wayne (Moneka) Johnson, Wymberly  Johnson, Kirkland (Tammy) Casey,  Tanieka (Tony) Casey-Nickell, Christopher Johnson, Chester L.  (Betty) Johnson,  Brittney  (James) Johnson-Neal  Bryan (Teisha)Broomfield, Cohester (Chris)Johnson- Strowman,  Chadrick Johnson, Chelsea Johnson and Shakela Casey King; brother-in-law, Willie Jones; sisters-in-law, Louise Wells, Sarah Wells, Suler Wells, Cleo Davis, Mattie Morgan, Frances  (Robert)Young, and Eva Cunningham; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by a daughter, Doris L. Johnson; siblings, Homer Wells, Alexander Wells, Archie Wells, Sr., William Wells, Sr., Twiggs Wells, Jr., Bessie Wells Heggs, Gussie Wells Davis and Gladys Wells Morris.
Honorary pallbearers were Deacons and Trustees of Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church and Gordon Grove Baptist Church. Active pallbearers will be grandsons.
Family and friends may call at the residence of her daughter and son-n-law, Johnny and Lona Lane-Samuels, 1104 Lane Drive, Wrens, Ga.
Garrer Funeral Home of 721 New Street, Louisville is in charge of the funeral arrangements. 
 
Mr. Robert L. Neal, Sr. formerly of Louisville departed this life Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Pruitt of Old Capital.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 9, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Stone Springfield AME Church, Stapleton, burial will be held in the Jones Grove Baptist Church, Louisville.
Mr. Neal was a native of Jefferson County, the son of the late Elder Neal and Sarah Rock Sherrod and was the widower of the late Doris Margaret Snell Neal. He was employed as a grocery deliverer at Dixon Grocery Louisville, for many years and for over 25 years he worked as a crater at Thermo King Corporation. Robert was a member of the St. Matthews AME Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one son, Ronnie Neal.
Survivors include his children, Willie Eugene Fields of Warner Robins, and Robert (Cynthia) Neal, Jr., Louisville, one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Purdis of Hephzibah, his step mother, Jeanette Dixon Sherrod, Louisville, one brother, L. W. (Katie) Sherrod, Louisville, one sister, Ruth (Lonnie) Wright, Jacksonville, Florida; 17 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren,  a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Family may be contacted at the residence of his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Cynthia Neal, Jr., 735 Old U S Hwy 1, Louisville, Georgia, or at Davis Funeral Home.

Ms. Diane Verna Norris died Aug.29, 2016. Ms. Norris was born to Mae Rosa Green Norris and the late Willie Lander Norris on Feb. 28, 1960 in Warrenton.  “Lil Diane” as she was affectionately called by those who loved and knew her best, is one of nine siblings.  She attended school in Warren County,  she joined the Mount Moriah Baptist Church of Warrenton at an early age.  She was a faithful daughter, mother and friend.
Ms. Norris worked at numerous places to include, Chardan Limited, Health Tex and  until her health failed, Peggy’s Restaurant as a customer service representative for over 15 years. 
She is preceded in death by her brother, Willie L. “Blue” Norris, Jr., sister Velma Teresa Norris Dunn, her maternal grandparents, Josephine Green and John Wesley.  
Survivors include her devoted and  fiancee, Wallace Beasley of  Wrens,  son Terrence Beasley of Wrens,  mother, Mae Rosa Norris of Warrenton,  sister, Angela (Arthur) Tolbert of Warrenton,  five brothers, Billy Norris of Augusta,  Randy (Earnest Mae) Norris of Warrenton, Blake (Charlene) Norris of Massachusetts; Johnny (Jennie Mae) Norris and Rick (Rebertha) Norris, both of Thomson,  a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and additional friends.
Funeral service were held on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016 at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, Warrenton, with the Rev. Dr. Johnny Hampton, Pastor Eulogist, and Rev  Chavas Boyd, Presider.  Interment: Union Star Society Cemetery .Freeman Funeral Home, 402 Curtis St. Wrens was in charge of arrangements.
