Jessie Bell Upkins Wells, a native of Jefferson County, was born November 4, 1949 to the late George Upkins, Sr. and Doshia Morgan Upkins. She parted her life on Thursday, May 4, 2017. She is preceded in death by her brother George Upkins, Jr. and sister Vonda Upkins-Gross.
Services will be held Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the James and Virginia Davis Memorial Chapel, Louisville.
Jessie graduated from Louisville High School with the class of 1971. She moved to Atlanta and began working at Emory University Hospital, in the Cath Lab. She later got married to the late Joseph Wells. She became a member of New St. John Baptist Church, where she served faithfully on the usher board and in the choir. In the early 2000’s she worked and retired from Sears Logistics Center.
“Bell” as everyone affectionately called her was best known for always opening her home to any and everyone. She loved to cook and her specialty was baking cakes and pies.
Jessie is survived by her daughter Marie “Michelle” Holloway (Alfonzo), Lithonia; grandchildren, Caekelia “Keke” Sutton, Stone Mountain, Marionna “Sha” Upkins, Jonesboro, Keunsha “Pie” Upkins, Atlanta; great grandchildren, A’Niya Chester, Aubree Christmas, Micaiah Watkins, and Jeremiah Scott; brother, Jimmy Upkins, Decatur, sisters, Mary Upkins, Lillie Upkins, Martha Cantrell, all of Louisville, Doshia Upkins, Wynell Upkins, both of Decatur. She was loved dearly by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
