Danny Herman Hillman, 60, loving husband of Joy Rebecca Arrington Hillman, entered into his eternal rest late Friday night, Sept. 1, 2017 at Doctors Hospital in Augusta.
Funeral services were held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 5, with Reverend Tony Key officiating.  Interment were followed in the Reedy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Danny grew up in the panhandle area, graduated from Warren County High School and worked for Stapleton Garment Company, Augusta Sportsman, Howard Sheppard before driving for UPS, a job he loved.
Being musically inclined, he could play the guitar, banjo—anything with strings—and could often times be found strumming and picking. This relaxed him and soothed his soul.
Danny loved to travel, especially trips to the mountains with Helen being his favorite place to visit. He enjoyed working in the yard—growing flowers and cutting grass. He found this also a time of peaceful relaxation. When not at work, his canine buddy, Sapphire, was his constant companion and wherever  Danny was, Sapphire was right there with him.  His was a “common-sense conservative” and enjoyed political discussions, which he could do for hours. Danny had a gentle, caring spirit and was kind and helpful to everyone.  Being a very social person, he wanted everyone happy—he did not like discord and always promoted unity and peace.
A loyal friend, he was generous to a fault. Above all else, he loved his family—he would do anything for his bride and the grandchildren who stole his heart.  Danny was a simple man who lived a simple life filled with love.

Bobbie Jewel Holley Wimpy, 85, wife of the late Jack Alford Wimpy, peacefully entered into her eternal rest early Friday morning, Sept. 1, 2017 at Silver Linings Personal Care Home in Stapleton.
Funeral services were held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 3 p.m. Monday afternoon, Sept. 4, 2017, with Reverend Carson Fellows officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Horeb Baptist Church Cemetery.
The youngest and only girl born to the late Rosa Mae Wheeler Holley and the late William “Bill” Macon Holley, Bobbie grew up in Matthews and attended Wrens High School where she excelled on the girls basketball team. After graduation she attended college in Statesboro.
One weekend while enjoying the sun and beach at Tybee Island, she met Jack, an airman stationed at Hunter Airfield. After a whirlwind romance, they married and traveled the world, being stationed in Germany, France, Homestead FL and Charleston SC. This life-style of traveling extensively suited Bobbie’s sense of adventure.
In 1969 upon Jack’s retirement, their family returned to live in Wrens. A fun-loving, social couple, they enjoyed square dancing with the Wrens Wranglers. They also joined the fellowship as active members of Mt. Horeb Baptist Church.
After Jack’s passing, Bobbie moved her letter of faith to Wrens Baptist Church. Bobbie was always on-the-move either working or playing.  She worked as a bookkeeper for M.B. Jones Oil Company for many years until her reluctant retirement. Her determined, competitive nature served her well in life and in excelling her in favorite sports—tennis, softball, and basketball. She just loved being outside—taking long walks, usually with a friend (Bobbie would be the one at least a step ahead) and working in her yard, which gave her much pleasure.  She will be remembered for her industrious work ethic, strong-willed personality and fun-loving nature.  Rest in peace, Bobbie.
Bobbie is also preceded in death by all of her brothers, Ray Holley, Bill Holley Jr., Gene Holley and George Holley. George Felton Pennington, 88, loving husband of 59 years to the late Betty Williams Pennington, entered into his eternal rest Friday morning, Sept. 22, 2017 at the Charlie Norwood VA Hospital, Downtown Division in Augusta.  Funeral services were held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. Tuesday morning, Sept. 26, 2017 with Reverend Tony L. Key officiating.  Interment with military honors followed in the Mt. Moriah Church Cemetery.
The youngest of four sons born to the late Annie Mae Evans Pennington and the late Recy William Pennington, George was a lifelong resident of Matthews.  Working on the family farm, he became very strong physically and accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, he became strong spiritually, serving him in the fellowship of Woodland Baptist Church.  His love of Christ and his faith put a protective hedge around his life.
A great athlete, he played football for Wrens High School and was dubbed “Cannon Ball”—a name that stuck and later became his CB handle. After graduation, he was drafted into the Army to serve in the Korean War. Upon his return from boot camp, he married the love of his life before shipping out to Korea where after several feats of bravery, he was captured and held as a prisoner of war for 28 months until the end of the war. During his captivity, he worked diligently, always looking after his fellow compatriots in any way he could.  George was finally recognized for his selfless acts of heroism 51 years later when he was awarded the purple heart.  Georgia’s last surviving POW of the Korean War, George had a fierce love for his country and was a proud patriot.
After returning home in September 1953, he farmed for a while and then started driving a truck, making long-haul runs delivering golf carts for Club Car for 48 years until he took a leave of absence to care for his precious wife.  Not liking to be confined, he loved being on the road.  Everywhere he went, he was an ambassador for Club Car and made friends all over the U.S.  He was awarded truck driver of the year for many years, but most notably he was inducted into the truck driver hall of fame for 10,000,000 safe miles driven.
In his younger years, he enjoyed dove shoots and water skiing. When he was in his 40’s, George got his private pilot license—flying also provided that sense of freedom he so loved and craved.
Most of all, he loved his family unconditionally and was most content in their presence.  George’s priorities were his Lord and Savior, his devoted wife, loving children and grandchildren, church family, community and America. He has completed his life’s work and is now in Glory.  As always, his last words to everyone—“Don’t forget!  God loves you and I do, too!”
George was also preceded in death by his brothers, Ralph Pennington, Paul Pennington and Curtis Pennington. Those left to cherish his memory include his four children, Jeff Pennington, Judy Rowland (Billy), Jane Englett and Jenny Felker (John); eight grandchildren, Kim McNair (Michael), Jared Pennington, Jill R. Marriott (Leon), Evan Englett (Brandi), Emily Blocker (Chad), Jessica Owens, Jamie Owens and Joni Owens; ten great-grandchildren, Kylie McNair, Gavin McNair, Chase McNair, Britton Pennington, Anna Marriott, Brodie Blocker, Kaylee Blocker, Evan Blocker, Slade Sellars and Sawyer Alexander; nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.  Serving as pallbearers were Chad Blocker, Evan Englett, Terry Englett, Jeff Gay, Jim Gay, Leon Marriott, Michael McNair and Jared Pennington.
The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to his beloved church home, Woodland Baptist Church, 22259 US Hwy 1 North, Matthews GA  30818.
Heartfelt thanks are extended to all his care givers for their love, compassionate care and support.

Guy “Brett” Williams, 50, loving husband of Diane Lynn Powell Williams, entered into his eternal rest Sunday night, Sept. 23, 2017 at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center, Downtown Division in Augusta.
A Celebration of Life service will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon, Sept. 28, 2017 with Dr. Luther Felder officiating.  Military honors will follow.
With the exception of his military travels and a few years after his tour ended, Brett was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County where he attended Louisville High School.  After graduating from Glascock County Consolidated School in Gibson, he joined the Navy, serving his country in Desert Storm—he was a true patriot who loved America.  He worked for Adaptive Wheelchair Company in Michigan before returning home to Louisville where he worked for ThermoKing. Loving the freedom of the road, he became a long-haul truck driver, working for Estes before his health decline.  Brett loved to fish and he had a life-long love for racing—his favorite all-time NASCAR driver was Dale Earnhart with his favorite local drivers being Bill and Cole Godowns.  He has been described as the world’s biggest flirt and jokester.  He loved to make people laugh and smile—he wanted everyone to have a good time. Being a gregarious person, he never met a stranger.  Brett accepted people just as they are and was never one to judge a book by its cover.  His true treasure was his family and friends whom he loved unconditionally and without end.
Brett is preceded in death by his father, Willie Burt Williams.  Other survivors include his mother, Brenda Rogers Williams; daughters, Summer Leigh Williams and Kelly Marie Williams (Delton Unruh); three siblings, Bonny Gainey (Mike), Bill Williams and Ben Williams (Gladys); four grandchildren, Ally Brett Mills, Savannah Leianna Unruh, Harley Grace Unruh and Conner Vincent Unruh; sister-in-law, Lynn Williams; special friends, Angie Kemp and Amy Gordon; nieces, nephews and many friends

Larry Gene Herndon, 70, loving husband of 48 years to Patricia Ann Perdue Herndon, entered into his eternal rest Monday evening, Sept.25, 2017, at Select Specialty Hospital in Augusta.
Services were held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 12 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017, with Rev. Wayne Usry officiating. A private interment will follow at a later date.
One of 14 born to the late Katherine Reynolds Poss Herndon and the late George Augustus Herndon, Larry was raised in Burke County, attending Waynesboro Elementary, Jenkins County Elementary and Midville High School. Marrying the love of his life in 1969, he moved to Wrens, her home town, where he lived for 44 years until his health decline four years ago and they moved to Grovetown.  Larry worked as a welder at Thermo King, retiring after 38 years of service. He totally enjoyed his job but more importantly he loved everyone he worked with.  Larry had dyslexia and never learned to read; even so, he had a sharp mind and a phenomenal memory for numbers—he could remember telephone numbers, birth dates, anniversary dates…anything to do with numbers.  He was also very mechanically inclined and took things apart just to see how it worked.  Larry was also known to go “dumpster diving” to pickup “absolutely good” things people discarded and would re-purpose and even invent new uses for them.  Having a green thumb and being a nature lover, he could be found outside working with his plants, flowers, garden, pomegranate trees and other trees he transplanted into his yard from the woods. Everything he touched would flourish.  An animal lover, he had a special love for cats—he would feed any strays that came into his yard. He couldn’t sit still and had to be doing something all the time, even it was just piddling.  Having no children of their own, both Larry and Patricia loved children, and could not pass by a baby without stopping and loving on them. Larry never met a stranger and was a loyal friend who would do what he could to help others.  It has been said that “No” was not a part of his vocabulary even when saying “Yes” meant driving someone home in the dead of night and giving out of gas on some back country road. He had a genuine love for others, putting their needs ahead of his own.  Larry was a happy person who was always smiling, even in the midst of troubled times.  A friend to everyone, Larry will be remembered for his beautiful smile, his sweet, gentle spirit, his generous, giving nature, and his loving acceptance of others.  Oh! What joy to live such a life as this simple man who portrayed the love of Christ, his Lord and Savior.
Larry is also preceded in death by his sisters, Lucille H. Kilpatrick and Shirley H. Eskew; and brother, Wayne A. Herndon. Other survivors include his brothers, Richard W. Herndon (Virginia) of Twin City, Tommy G. Herndon of Wrens, Robert E. Herndon (Arleen) of Rincon, and Arlon Herndon (Connie) of Augusta; his sisters, Myrtle Lee Blackstone of Waynesboro, Clara H. Dukes (Henry) of Augusta, Emily H. Goninan (Lance) of Martinez, and Georgia Ann Phillips (Gene) of Register; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
The family received friends at James Funeral Home Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017 one hour prior to services—from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Mrs. Macy Lynn Purvis Mullis

Macy Lynn Purvis Mullis, 23, loving wife of Tyler Miles Mullis, tragically lost her life in a horrific, vehicular accident at the Taco Bell in Swainsboro on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017.  Funeral services will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon, Oct. 5, 2017, with Father Patrick Otor officiating. Interment will follow in the Reedy Creek Baptist Cemetery.
Born in Augusta, Macy grew up in Jefferson County, graduating from Jefferson County High School in 2012.  She worked full time as a data collector for Crossmark, then in December, 2016, as a Corrections Officer for the Georgia State Prisons, while being enrolled at Swainsboro Tech working towards a criminal justice degree.  A fashionista, Macy loved to shop and model clothes, both in the store and at home. Being very photogenic, there are many photos—and selfies—of her modeling clothes, being with family and friends, and just “doing life.”  She could also be found reading a book, another pastime she enjoyed. She was always on the go and, being adventuresome, liked to travel, enjoying the beauty of God’s creation.  In recent years, she especially loved going on cruises with her husband.
Macy experienced great loss during her short time with us—especially hard was the death of her brother in 2004 and then the death of her precious baby, Bryson, in 2012.  She kept her faith and leaned on the strength of her Savior. Through friends, she met the love of her life, marrying Oct. 3, 2015. She had finally found the man of her dreams—one who provided her with love, security and happiness—and was totally in love and happy.  Although Macy was raised Catholic, the couple attended Dellwood Baptist Church when their work schedules allowed.
Quick-witted, she had a great sense of humor and adventure. People gravitated to Macy and her bubbly, outgoing personality—her beautiful smile would light up a room and her laugh would make your heart leap with joy.  She absolutely loved with all of her heart and was especially close to her family. Macy had a special love for children and was in her element when playing with her godson, Jase.  Her goals were to finish her degree and grow her family—she looked forward to being a mother. As beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside, her loving, sweet, gentle spirit will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.  Death leaves a void that no one can fill; but love leaves memories that no one can steal. Macy’s memories live on forever in our hearts.
Macy is preceded in death by her precious son, Bryson Purvis-Vause; and her brother, Mark Purvis.  Other survivors include her mother, Susan Prescott Purvis Kuehne (Charles); father, Marty Purvis (Jodie); parents-in-law, Jenny and Darrell Mullis;  siblings, Breanna Purvis, Hawke Kuehne, Jeri Hanson (Seth), Michael Thomspon, Logan Peebles, Patrick Peters, Brooke Sheppard (Justin), Alyson Mullis, and Chris Buckner; Godson, Jase Kersey; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Matthew Headrick, Trent Kersey, Timothy Rodriquez, Matt Surine, Tim Turner Jr. and Tim Turner Sr.  Honorary pallbearers will be Logan Peebles and the Color Guard of the Georgia State Prison.
The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening, Oct. 4, 2017.
