Mr. Jenning Scott Stone, Jr. departed his life Dec.16, 2017, at Pruitt Heath Rehabilitation in Louisville. Funeral service was held 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 22, 2017, at John and Alavan Memorial Chapel/ Garrer Funeral Home in Louisville, with Pastor Troy Duggans officiating. Interment will be in the Georgia Veteran Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville.
Mr. Stone was born on Jan. 1, 1928, in Louisville, to Jenning Scott Stone Sr. and Vinnie Fann Stone. His transition from this life was Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017.
He accepted Christ at an early age as a member of Saint Matthews A.M.E. Church of Louisville. He later joined St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church. At the age of 17 he joined the US Navy and served in World War II and was awarded the American Area Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Area Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Area Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He received an honorable discharge in 1953.
He was predeceased by his wife of 37 years, Annie Francis Jackson Stone; son Jenning Scott Stone III; grandsons; Markinyo Gage and Timothy A. Wynn; sisters; Annie Maude-Pierce and Sallie Maude-Hillsmon; brother; Samuel Stone; stepdaughter; Annie Jessie Brown and stepson; Jonas Lee Page.
Mr. Stone is survived by his wife; Willie Mae Roberts Stone; daughters; Jewel A. Gage of Virginia Beach, VA and Alma Slash (Olenger) of Indianapolis, IN; brother; Edgar L. Stone (Doris) of Louisville; sisters; Catherine Washington of Miramar, FL; Louis Jordan of Stone Mountain; stepdaughter; Betty Scott (Alex) of Louisville; grandchildren; Akelo Stone (Jammee); La Keisha Wynn Jackson; Kaliah Gage, Akia White-Stone (Anthawn) and Sedrick Carr; 12 step-grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Pallbearers will be, Col. Fredrick Hannah, Casper Combs, Jr., Tommy Fields, Judson Washington, Jr., Olenger Slash, Alex Scott and Akelo Stone.
