Harold Herbert Wenger, loving husband and best friend, Dad and Papa, was born Oct. 4, 1950, in Newton, Kansas, to Paul and Elizabeth Ratzloff Wenger.

He peacefully slipped away on Nov. 2, 2017, due to complications of Parkinson’s disease, reaching the age of 67 years.

Harold received his education at the Golden Plains School in Newton, KS. At the age of 12, he answered the call of God and was baptized by Frank H. Wenger on Nov. 23, 1962. He fought a good fight, remaining faithful until the end.

At the age of 20, he relocated with his parents from Kansas to Georgia where they made their home in the Louisville community. He married the love of his life, Phyllis Jane Hiebert, on Dec. 15, 1972. They shared the joys and sorrows of life for almost 45 years. Three daughters and one son were born into their home.

Harold was a hard worker providing well for his family. He greatly enjoyed his occupation as a dairyman. In 1996, due to failing health, he had to sell the farm. He started a new line of work at a hardware store and later delivering flowers. He enjoyed meeting new people and they were glad to see him come! We remember him as a good man with a gentle heart, often shedding tears when reading the Bible in family devotions and prayer. Singing was the language of his heart, especially towards the end when communication became difficult. He spent the last eight months at the Keysville Nursing Home where he won the hearts of the residents and his caregivers. We, as a family, would like to express our sincere gratitude to his loving nurses who cared for him.

Those left to cherish fond memories are his loving wife Phyllis, three daughters, Margaret and husband Lyle Koehn, Hartwell; Charlotte and husband Lee Unruh, Avera, Stephanie and husband Joshua Hodgin, Avera; and one son, Bryce Wenger, Louisville; 13 grandchildren; three sisters, Ruth and Orie Koehn, Clarksdale MS; Pauline and Linwood Koehn, Murray KY; Wanda and Gladwin Koehn, Gentry AR; one brother, Howard and Karla Wenger, Brooksville MS; two brothers-in-law, Rodney and Gladys Hiebert, Louisville, and Clark and Debbie Hiebert, Louisville; four sisters-in-law, Rita Gay, Louisville and Ricky Gay, Avera, Grace and Verle Giesbrecht, Louisville presently serving in the Philippines, Elizabeth Hiebert, Louisville and Sharon Hiebert, Murray KY.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother-in-law, John Holdeman.

Viewing was at Pinecrest Mennonite Church on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2017 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
