Mrs. Dorothy Ann Neal Nugin Askew of Augusta entered into rest on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2015, at University Hospital, Augusta.
Mrs. Askew was a native of Jefferson County, but later moved to Augusta. She was born to the late Willie Ozzie Neal and Thelma Farmer in Stapleton. She was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2015, at 1 p.m. at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Augusta. Burial followed at Stone Springfield AME Church Cemetery, Stapleton.
Survivors include her husband, Wayne Askew Sr., Augusta; children, LaTonya (Alonzo) Nugin, Shenequa Nugin and Baron (Alexia) Nugin; stepchildren, Wayne (Vanessa) Askew Jr., Angela (Shannon) Askew-Davis, Yolanda Askew, April (Timothy) Askew-Thacker and Benita Wright, Ellenwood; siblings, Elnora Abney, Pauline Thompson, Lillie (Earnest) James and James (Andrian) Neal; stepbrothers and stepsisters, Billy Neal, Belinda Neal, Mary Miller, R.C. Miller, Percy Neal, Tommy Lee Neal and John F. Neal; grandchildren, Raekwon Smith, Terez Smith, JaQuavious Molock, Shantajah Nugin, Shardajah Nugin and Shanizajah Nugin; niece, Teresa Stone; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Miss Betty Jean Thigpen Chalker, 77, of Blythe entered into rest on Sunday, Dec. 13, 2015, at Keysville Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center.
Miss Chalker was one of seven children born to the late Annie Lou Gleason Thigpen and the late Robert Lee Thigpen. She was raised in the Bartow region, where she attended elementary school, then living in the Louisville area before moving to Blythe, where she has lived for the past 35 years. She worked at Stapleton Garment until it closed and other companies in the garment industry as a seamstress.
Funeral services were held at James Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2015, with Rev. Tommy Anderson officiating. Interment followed in the Waldens United Methodist Church Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Edna Mae Thigpen, Virginia Shelton, Dorothy Thigpen and Thelma Manning.
Survivors include her children, Doris J. Lyvers, Buford Williams Jr. and Danny Williams; siblings, Herbert “Buddy” Thigpen and Jewel Griswold; grandchildren, Johnathan Brown (Tracey), Shawn Lyvers (Autumn) and Tiffani Johnson (Reid); and great-grandchildren, Justin Brown, Jacob Brown, Wednesday Johnson and Aiden Lyvers.

Mrs. Margurite McNair Morris, 81, of Carrollton entered into rest on Friday, Dec. 18, 2015.
Mrs. Morris was born on Jan. 31, 1934, in Stapleton to the late Fred McNair and Thelma Williams McNair. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Carrollton. She worked at Richards Homes in the accounting department and was a homemaker.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Dec. 21, 2015, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, with Dr. Steve Davis, Vicki Morris, Roger Trowell and Jeff Fricks officiating. Interment was in Carroll Memory Gardens.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norman Dail Morris Sr.; and brothers, Ferrell McNair and James McNair.
Survivors include her son, Norman Dail (Vicki) Morris of Carrollton; grandchildren, Gracelyn Morris, Davis Morris and Ethan Morris; sisters, Naomi Jane Britton and Edith Mathews, both of Carrollton; sister-in-law, Catherine McNair of Wrens; and several nephews.
Pallbearers were Davis Morris, Ethan Morris, Lee Mathews, Daryl Mathews, Jeff Fricks and Bryan Smith.

Mrs. Janet Blue Strickland, 63, of Tennille entered into rest on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2015, at Washington County Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Strickland was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County, the daughter of the late Francis Todd Blue. She was a homemaker and a member of the National Rifle Association and the American Association of Retired Persons.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 20, 2015, at May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Danny Thomas officiating. Burial was in Washington County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Jeff Blue.
Survivors include her husband, Franklin L. Miss Annie DorisThompson of Louisville entered into rest on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2015, at Jefferson Hospital, Louisville.
Miss Thompson was a native of Jefferson County, born to the late Thomas Thompson Sr. and Nina Hicks Thompson in Bartow. She attended Bartow Public School System. She was employed with the Daycare Center, and was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2015, at 1 p.m. at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Louisville. Burial followed in Salters Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Bartow.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Thomas Thompson Jr., Edward Outley, Robert “Bobby” Thompson and Gene.
