Mrs. Verna Mae Arrington of Augusta entered into rest on Friday, Nov. 13, 2015, at her residence.

Mrs. Arrington was a member of Fleming Lodge.

A celebration of life service was held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015, at Woodland Baptist Church, Matthews.

 

Mrs. Shirley Beckworth, 72, of Mitchell entered into rest on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015, at her residence.  

A native of Hutton, Ill., Mrs. Beckworth had made her home in Mitchell for many years. She was the daughter of the late Edward Rickett and Loretta Jones Rickett and was as a homemaker.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 22, 2015, at Beckworth Swinson Cemetery, Baxley.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Wayne Rickett.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Henry Beckworth; brothers, Bill Rickett and Lyle Rickett; sisters, Annie Jenkins, Barbara Moran, Betty McNab and Vera Kilsen; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Taylor Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

 

Mrs. Thelma Paschal Carr of Louisville entered into rest on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015, at Vero Nursing Home, Wadley.

Mrs. Carr was a native of Jefferson County, born to the late Herman Davis and Eudell Paschal-Kelly. She was married the late George Carr Sr. and attended Jefferson County Public School System. At an early age, she joined Woodlawn Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as a member of the choir, and was a member of the Spring Bethel Benevolent Society. She was retired from Thermo King, Inc., after 30 years. 

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2015, at 1 p.m. at Woodlawn Missionary Baptist Church, Louisville, with Rev. Carl W. Simmons Jr. as eulogist. Burial followed in Spring Bethel Benevolent Society Cemetery, Louisville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, George Carr Jr.; and brother, Robert Kelly.

Survivors include her children, Joanne (Archie) Brinson, Cross-Green Community, Leotis (Julia) Carr, Edgar Lee (Brenda) Carr and James B. Carr, all of Louisville; siblings, Bobby (Thelma) Davis, Oakland, Calif., Charlie (Mamie) Davis, Freddie (Burine) Hill and Debbie (Leroy) Ruff, all of Louisville, Marvin (Marsha) Davis and Bernestine (Abram) Batts, both of Savannah, Rev. Joe (Natasha) Hill, Tennille, Dorothy (William) Randell, Sacramento, Calif., Emma M. Vargas, Wilton, Calif., Cleo Ghant, Augusta, Shirley (Leroy) Smith and Velverdene Davis, both of Atlanta, and Tammy (David) Nelson, Union City; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lewis (Helen) Carr Sr., Anell Frazier and Katie (L.W.) Sherrod, all of Louisville; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

 

Miss Lucy Renea Harris Johnson, 79, of Bartow entered into rest on Monday, Nov. 16, 2015, at her residence.

Miss Johnson was born in Coweta County to the late Lubie Carl Harris and Lillie Mae Gertrude Bunn. She lived in Bartow for many years. She retired from Paytex Corporation and was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Ann Faulkner Mosley.

Survivors include her daughters, Heather Thompson, Susan Youmans, Loretta Kyle and Susan Castro; son, Jeffrey Thomas Faulkner; brother, Alvin Harris; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 

Mr. Wilbur Carlton Johnson, 82, of Warrenton entered into rest on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2015, at University Hospital, Augusta.

Mr. Johnson, a native and lifelong resident of Warren County, was the son of the late G.B. and Erma Hill Johnson. He retired after 34 years of service with the Georgia Department of Transportation as an Area Engineer. A 1951 graduate of the Warren County High School, Mr. Johnson was a member of the Glascock County Farm Bureau, member for 60 years and past master of Franklin Masonic Lodge No. 11, and was a former member of the Board of Trustees at Briarwood Academy. Mr. Johnson was a member of Johnson United Methodist Church.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015, at Johnson United Methodist Church, with Rev. Don Richards officiating. Burial, with Masonic Rites, followed in Johnson Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by a brother, David T. Johnson.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Marjorie Hart Johnson; three sons, Timothy C. Johnson, Townsend, Thomas R. (Kathy) Johnson, Bastonville, and Tony H. (Marla) Johnson, Sandersville; grandchildren, Andrew (Katy), Maria Celeste, Reed, Taylor, Tyler and Logan; brother, W. Larry Johnson of Warrenton; and sister-in-law, Ponda T. Johnson of Warrenton.

Pallbearers were Eston Usry, Terry Johnson, Shawn Johnson, Scott Johnson, Dan Grube, Donald Kitchens, Randy Johnson and Joe Shurley.

Honorary pallbearers were members of Franklin Masonic Lodge No. 11.

Memorials may be made to the Johnson United Methodist Church, C/O Tommy Johnson 7731 Bastonville Road, Warrenton, GA 30828.

Infant Raniqua LaShayla Waltower of Keysville entered into rest on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2015, at Georgia Regents Medical Center, Augusta.

Graveside services were held at 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20, 2015, at St. Clair Baptist Church Cemetery, Keysville, with Rev. Tommie Walker Jr. officiating. 

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Eddie and Sarah Waltower.

Survivors include her parents, Randy Jerome Waltower Sr. of Gough and Marquida LaShonda Smith of Keysville; brothers, Jayrin Williams, Randell Waltower, Mykell Scott and Randy Jerome Waltower Jr., all of Augusta; sister, Raneisha Waltower of Augusta; grandparents, Marcus Smith, Mary Ann Andrews and Bobbie Jo Boyd, all of Keysville; great-great-grandfather, Watson Cooper Sr. of Keysville; uncles, James Waltower and Tyrone Waltower, both of Gough, James London Jr. of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Marcus Smith and Watson Cooper Jr., both of Keysville; aunts, Stephanie Smith, Veronica Streetman and Dorcus Stewart, all of Keysville, and Cynthia Lewis of Augusta; a host of great-aunts, great-uncles and other relatives.

Pallbearers were James Waltower, Bobby Jones, Randell Waltower and Randy Waltower.

Taylor Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
